US mourns 26 dead in school shootings 学校射撃事件で亡くなった26人の死を悲しむ米国

The US has been in mourning since Last Friday, when a gunman shot and killed 26 people at an elementary school in Sandy Hook, Connecticut. Among his victims were 20 children who were six and seven years old. It was one of the worst shooting sprees in US history.

The gunman, who walked into the school at 9:30 a.m. dressed in black and carrying several guns, shot and killed himself as police closed in.

News outlets showed distraught children walking in lines out of the school on Friday morning, crying and holding on to each other. Teachers told them to close their eyes, so they did not see the bloodshed around them.

As night fell, the town centre was crowded with camera crews and lit by bright television lights. A police helicopter hovered over the school.

The US has experienced a string of mass shootings this year. As with other shooting sprees, the shootings started a discussion about whether the US should have stricter gun laws.
