Google is the dominant search engine in the world. It specializes in Internet-related services and products that include search, cloud computing, software, and online advertising technologies. However, the Internet company is now facing renewed pressure over illegal pharmaceuticals by lawmakers. In 2011, Google had to pay $500 million to avoid federal charges for its role in helping unlicensed Internet pharmaceutical companies market drugs in the U.S. Consequently, Google had to reorient its advertisement policies.

Earlier this year, a complaint was registered by a group of state attorneys in Denver and Washington on Google’s marketing policies. The company’s policies have also invited the rage of shareholders, who blamed Google’s careless attitude toward prescription drug advertisements for landing the company in legal and financial problems.

To rectify the situation, Google has now said that it will hire additional staff to identify fake advertisements and videos and remove 1,200 predicted search phrases that might lead people to illegal websites. According to Google spokeswoman Niki Christoff, the company takes the safety of their users very seriously and it has disabled millions of advertisements for illegal online pharmacies.
